Common Dolphins/Dolphins
Common Dolphins or Commons as they are referred to are found in all the temperate waters of the world. They are a very social dolphin found in larger pods. They are rarely found in captivity unless for rescue or rehabilitation. They mate and calf year round, many times babies are found leaping next to their mothers in pods. There are two species, one the shortbeak and the other the long beak Common Dolphin. Commons almost are always curious of boaters and come right up to boats to ride the bow wave.

"First Leaps"
This is a photo of a very small baby dolphin leaping and staying very close to its mother, in it's first days or week as a dolphin. It's so young it still has birth folds on the sides of its body and has a dent or 'soft spot' on the top its head like babies have.
