2007 Aerial Blue Whales

Blue Whales are shown here from above to get a totally different vantage point of these magnificent animals. This angle to me shows how truly amazing and large these animals really are, I hope you enjoy these!! These photos were all taken on September 7th 2007. Thanks to a great pilot Guy de Gramont. These animals were all in the Santa Barbara Channel just south of the California coastline.

Blue Whale spouting on the surface in the summer of 2007 in the Santa Barbara Channel, CA.

  • This Blue Whale every bit of 80ft. long is massive not only from the air but on the water.
  • The blow of the mighty Blue Whale from above.
  • A pair of Blue Whales swim together through the waters offshore of Santa Cruz Island.
  • This is a photo of albino Blue Whale. If you look closely you can see a tracking tag on the whale just forward of the dorsal fin. That tag was placed on the whale by researcher Bruce Mate.
  • In perfect form, these two swim together in search of more krill to feed upon.
  • Blue Whale surfacing, showing its obvious dual blowholes indicating that it is a Baleen whale.
  • One Blue comes to the surface while the other follows close by.
  • High above the largest animal on the planet.
  • Head on look at a Blue Whale, very streamline bodies for such massive animals.
  • Blue Whale spouting as it rises to the surface, you can see their small paddle shaped pectoral fins, unlike Humpbacks that have long pectoral fins.
